Challenge Day

Show what you've built. Present your project to the jury and compete for the prizes.

During the Kids Path 2 Engineering Challenge Day, children show their finished project. They demonstrate to a jury that their project works, explain their idea and compete against other participants within their own category.

Children who are not students at Kids Path 2 Engineering can also participate.

Open to KP2E students and external participants.

The heart of the day

A competition day for finished projects.

Challenge Day is not a regular building or testing lesson. Participants arrive with a finished project, demonstrate how it works, present their idea and try to earn a podium spot within their own level.

Points are awarded per category. This way, children compete against participants of a similar level, and every child gets a fair chance to excel.

Competition structure

Competition per category

All participants are judged within their own level. This keeps the competition fair and gives every child the chance to excel.

Basic / Standard

Competition for starting and growing makers

Children show a clearly working project and explain step by step what they have made.

Premium / Premium Plus

Competition for more complex engineering projects

Children present projects with more technical challenge, complexity and finish.

Points and presentation

Assessment by the jury

The jury reviews each project carefully. Children show that their project works, explain their idea and answer questions. Based on functionality, idea, complexity, finish and presentation, each project receives points.

  • Does the project work as intended?
  • Is the idea clear and creative?
  • How difficult or complex is the project?
  • Is the project neatly finished?
  • Can the child explain how the project works?
  • Has there been good thinking about improvement and problem-solving?

Prizes

Each category has prizes for first, second and third place. So there isn't just one overall winner: Basic, Standard, Premium and Premium Plus each have their own ranking.

Examples of prizes include a 3D printer, soldering station, electronics and STEM tools, technical building sets and other engineering materials.

Side activity for visitors

STEM tables for visitors

Alongside the competition, there are STEM tables where children can get acquainted with electronics, Arduino and simple projects. Kids Path 2 Engineering students help visitors build something small to take home, such as a Night Rider LED project or a similar mini build.

The STEM tables are an extra activity, not the main competition.

Challenge Day itself is about finished projects, jury points and winners per category. The STEM tables additionally give visitors a short, accessible introduction to technology.
